For many people in the Innisfil and Alcona area, the Innisfil Life Centre is a resource they could not do without. This volunteer-driven community hub offers programming for children, teens, and adults and features a Clothing Depot and Food Bank for residents of the area.
The Clothing Depot offers free clothing for families in need during times of emergency, free monthly shopping for residents of Innisfil on the 4th Thursday of every month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and ships clothing overseas for disaster relief and development. This resource not only acts to reduce waste by recycling clothes, but also offers a valuable resource for families with growing children, or people in need. Clean, gently used clothing can be dropped off at the Life Centre at any time of day.
The Innisfil Food Bank gives out nearly 67,000 lbs of food every year to families in need. Each box includes 70lbs of food which can feed a family of four for two weeks. The Food Bank distributes three tonnes of food each month and is currently grossly understocked. This summer they have experienced the lowest stock of food they have had in years.
In order to support the community and this fantastic organization, Friday Harbour is hosting a food drive through FH Fine Food. Starting the Friday of the Labour Day long weekend, a donation box will be located at the check-out and shoppers will find specific items of need called out throughout the store. The Food Bank is currently in need of peanut butter and jam, shelf-stable breakfast items, cereals, and oatmeals.
The Innisfil Life Centre saw a 65% increase in users from 2017 to 2019 and those numbers are likely to continue to grow. Friday Harbour is proud to support this local organization that does so much good for the Innisfil community.
