Steve Grass comes to Friday Harbour Resort with over 10 years of industry experience and a love for the game of golf. Growing up on the East Coast of Canada, Steve had the opportunity to work at golf clubs in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario, making him uniquely qualified to provide a world-class golf experience to Homeowners, Members, and Guests.
Steve is passionate about golf and people, but that’s just the beginning. We sat down with Steve to learn more about him and what we can look forward to this summer.
What is the most exciting thing you’re working on right now?
The most exciting thing is the Member’s Handbook for Homeowners outlining everything a Homeowner would need to know about the Nest Golf Club. It breaks down everything they could ever want or need to know, all in one place. Things that they might not have thought of like the spacing of tee times, how to book a tee time, what happens if there’s inclement weather, and more. It’s all the little things that add up to a golf organization being enjoyable and successful.
What would you like people to know about The Nest?
I am extremely excited to open our doors in 2018 and show Homeowners that The Nest will be one of the best in Canada. It will always be a first-class place to golf that provides a relaxing, inviting, and luxurious experience. All of their needs will be looked after onsite so all they need to think about is if they should hit a 7 iron or an 8 iron.
What is the #1 tip you would give to those who might be new to golf?
My first tip is to always approach me with any questions you might have! I and my entire team are here to help and make sure that every golfer starts with the best possible experience. I would also suggest that they watch some golf on TV in their spare time and then try and mimic what they see on TV when they’re next on the course. Many studies have shown observing great technique can go a long way to improve motor skill development.
What can people find at The Nest that they won’t be able to find anywhere else?
Well, just like across the entire resort, we aim every day to live and breathe our organization’s Core Values and set ourselves apart by our customer service. We also have a unique, cozy setting where you will get to know the entire team and other golfers on a first name basis.
Which one of our Core Values do you connect with the most? (Passion, Integrity, Excellence, or Respect)?
I identify with passion. For me, it all comes to down to everything I do being about the people I serve and the service they receive in return. It’s why I do what I do. Every interaction is an opportunity to make Friday Harbour an unforgettable experience.
What is the most important personal attribute that you bring to your job?
Like all of the other staff that I have the distinct privilege of working with on the resort, my positive attitude and relentless desire for impeccable customer service continue to set us apart from anyone else.
What is your favourite thing to do on the course?
To me, there’s nothing better than walking the course and getting some fresh air. It’s four hours of bliss where I am able to survey what we have to offer Homeowners and enjoy what the Friday Harbour team has put together. Inspecting what you expect is an important element of our day to day responsibilities.
